SICILY. Syracuse. Gelon, son of Hieron II, 275-215 BC. 8 Litrai (Silver, 20 mm, 6.63 g, 11 h), circa 218/7-215 BC. Diademed head of Gelon to left; to right, grain ear. Rev. ΣΥΡAKΩΣIOI - ΓEΛONOΣ Nike driving quadriga galloping to right, holding reins in both hands; above, BA; to right, KI. CCO 266 (D19/R21). HGC 2, 1561. Beautifully toned and with an excellent portrait of fine style. Minor flan fault on the obverse and with a few light marks, otherwise, good very fine.
